Seasonal Warming Tea

Have you noticed the number of children and adults that are getting sick right now? In my practice I hear many sniffles and coughs going around. Sometimes a good old-fashioned naturopathic remedy is all it takes to get somebody back on the track of wellness. One of the simple “find it in your cupboard” remedies for patients (over one year old) includes the use of organic raw honey, apple cider, lemon juice and grated ginger or ginger juice. This antimicrobial, vitamin C rich, antioxidant powerhouse combination is a great foundation to encourage healing. Add it to a healthy juice for kids (over the age of 1) or as a liquid antioxidant shot for adults.

Ingredients (try to use all organic)

  • 1 cup of apple cider vinegar with “the mother” (250 ml).

  • 1/2-1 cup of organic, unpasteurized honey (200-400 g).

  • 1-2 teaspoons of grated ginger or ginger juice

  • 1-2 lemons, macerated with seeds in a blender (skin can be included if organic)

Preparation

In a glass mason jar, mix all the ingredients and shake for about 90 seconds. Ideally, you should consume this remedy within 5 days, because once that time has passed, it will start to lose most of its properties. You can keep it in the refrigerator but remember to always keep it covered.

Start out by taking two tablespoons of the mixture as soon as you get up in the morning. If you are bothered by the taste, you can always dilute it in a glass of water or fresh fruit juice.
